Voting Question: How much should I pay to have my ‘71 Chevelle carb rebuilt?
Posted by adminJan 28
My 71 Chevelle would not start yesterday morning and when I brought it in to the shop I was told that the problem was my carburetor. They are saying that the some part in the choke is broken and it will not open, so my engine is not getting enough air etc…
They are saying that to fix it they need to completely take apart and rebuild my carb…they quoted me $450 for the whole job. So my questions really are:
#1 Do you really need to pull the whole thing apart to get to the choke? I thought that was the thing you adjusted on the outside?
#2 Is $450 a fair price for a Holley carb rebuild with maybe a few replacement choke parts (not sure exactly what they think is broken)?
I’m sure you can tell I’m exactly a mechanical genius, so please don’t tell me it’s cheaper to get a kit and do it myself. I would if I thought that I could lol.
