At least 12 people were shot at a crowded lowrider car show in Kent on Saturday, creating chaos as cars sped from the scene and frightened spectators ran for the safety of nearby shops.

Patrons and employees in the stores and restaurants locked the doors and crouched in backrooms to escape the gunfire.

“First I heard like six shots, then they kept going,” said Alejandro Lara, a witness.

He said he saw a single gunman firing from the front of the shopping center into the parking lot full of people.

The wounded didn’t have life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Police did not know Saturday evening how many shooters there were, and they were continuing to interview victims and witnesses. No arrests had been made by Saturday night.

“People were leaving as we were coming, and victims were our first priority,” said Kent police Sgt. Jarod Kasner.

A fight broke out just before the shooting, which occurred at the La Plaza shopping center, Kasner said. It is in the 23200 block of Pacific Highway South, where it meets the Kent-Des Moines Road.

Nine people — seven males and two females ranging from age 14 to 32 — were taken to Harborview Medical Center with injuries to arms, legs, feet and torso.

Four were treated and released and five were admitted overnight, Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg said. All were in satisfactory condition.

Four others were shot, at least two of whom went to other hospitals, police said.

Kasner described a chaotic scene as cars sped away from the La Raza lowrider show after the shooting at about 4:15 p.m.

Erica Parker said she was working at a Subway shop near the car show when she and other employees heard gunshots. People started running in, she said, screaming, “He’s got a gun!”

Witnesses said the La Raza car show had been going on in the parking lot during the weekend. About 50 lowrider or classic cars were on display.

Some of the car exhibitors blamed the violence on groups of young people who showed up at the party “mugging,” or staring each other down.”It was a good show, but a bad vibe,” said Cesar DePale, at a small gathering of self-described “veteranos” at a nearby detailing and body shop Saturday night.

He had been at the show, flaunting dancing hydraulics on his maroon 1986 Buick.

Leo Salazar, another exhibitor, said he saw a single young gunman.

When the shots began, car owners pushed each other to the pavement for cover, said DePale. “It was real scary. I don’t own a gun. I’ve never even heard a gunshot before. That’s how mellow I am.”

DePale said he’s been to 10 similar shows before that were peaceful.

A poster for the event said it was a free, all-ages lowrider show sponsored by Lokos Music. Besides a car show, several music groups performed.

After the shooting, drink cans and bottles were left scattered as people rushed from the scene. Within an hour, all the cars were gone.

At Pro Nails near the scene, employee Tran Tran said she heard a couple of pops, which she thought might be gunfire or firecrackers.

Shortly after, a mother with two children went into the store, saying she had been standing right next to a gunman and was scared.

I know a lot of places have high taxes on older cars or strict environmental regulations.Others did not have a large market until recently.I think in a lot of Asian and European countries, cars 25 years or older are very scarce or non-existant (singapore, Hong Kong, Japan,UK). What countries (OTHER than the obvious one, Cuba) can older cars still be seen? What kinds are more common in certain countries?

I am really into cars but honestly dont know much about them but am sure I want to go into auto mechanics.

I read from so many people that the best thing to do is to go to a community college that has a auto program instead of going to expensive schools like Wyotech. I agree for the most part.

What are some really good schools around the nation where I can study to be a mechanic?

Beside all of that, what I really want to do is buy old broken down classic cars and fix them then sell them. So I guess to do this I will need to know a bit of everything.

I need some good advice from someone, please help me if you can, I could really use it, I have literally no one to ask for help

I’ve bought three thus far (two Galaxies, one Dart). The first one ran fine but the seller neglected to tell me about the gas tank that he’d patched with putty. The second one was pretty solid. The last one, despite my “checking it out for problems” has turned out to be a lemon of sorts .

I’m less concerned with rust on the quarter panels than I am with mechanical issues. This last car I bought I really tried to test drive pretty hard to see if anything would happen. It ran fine for a week and then died. It’s been nothing but horrible since then, with me just pouring money into it to try and fix it.

So again, prior to buying the classic car, what do you do to ensure (as much as is possible) that you’re not buying a silent (pocketbook) killer?
Definition of “lemon” aside (I simply used the term to mean that a car was in a drastically different condition than it was advertised to be…in this case, not running well at all but totally defunct), I will offer some clarification:

I acknowledge that I am relatively new to classic cars, so the first one I bought (years ago) I was merely excited about and didn’t know what to look for (the small patch on the gas tank). As it is, I’ve only recently begun trying to piece together a classic, armed with only a Haynes manual (with some success).

Of course, I expect repairs on these older cars. But I thought I could also place some trust in the car if the seller says “runs very, very well” (etc, etc, etc), but I guess I’ve learned THAT lesson. Taking the car to a mechanic for inspection, prior to purchase, was my main failing, as I hadn’t done that.

Lastly, I realize I’m not a mechanic. I simply thought there were some things, as a buyer of the car, that I could look for/inspect (i.

I sprayed WD 40 on the hood springs on my classic chevy and now the hood will not stay up. I contacted WD 40 and was advised to use a degreaser. I did that a couple of times, but the hood still will not stay up. Is there a product I can spray (or otherwise) I can use to tighten those latches without having to completely replace them? Thank you.

I’m planning on buying a pre 72 GM A-Body. Is there a place where I can check the factory specs of these cars? Does anyone know what the specs such horsepower, mpg, 0-60 times would be for these cars? I’d like to know the specs for a 70 Buick Skylark with a Buick 350 with a 2/4 barrel and a 350 turbo. Also for a 70 Oldsmobile Cutlass with a Rocket 350 with a 2/4 barrel and a 350 trans. I’d be great if someone knew i site where I could check all GM A-body’s year by year and engine and trans options or if you know them please post.

I’m going to college, so I wont start any time soon. But I was wondering what to read before hand if there is any thing. I don’t have much experience but I think this would be something fun. I was thinking of trying a chevelle, nova, challenger, or a charger.
